Microcell Chooses Schlumberger Mobile Smart Card-Based Solution for First Wireless Banking Service in North America

Value-Added Service Leverages Latest Schlumberger SIM Toolkit Technology

Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB), the world's leading provider of smart card-based solutions, today announced that it has delivered Cyberflex Simera Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) smart cards and a mobile banking application solution to leading Canadian network operator, Microcell Solutions Inc. Microcell, national supplier of Fido Service, and the National Bank of Canada (NBC), will use the solution to deliver North America's first wireless financial services application, which will be commercially available next year.

The cornerstone of this new SIM toolkit-based service is the Schlumberger Cyberflex Simera card, which provides Microcell with maximum flexibility to create and manage fully customizable, value-added services. Using a simple menu-driven interface instead of keying number sequences Microcell subscribers with Phase 2+ compatible phones will be able to check bank account balances, lines of credit and credit cards, plus their most recent bank account and credit card transactions, any time, anywhere. The multi-application architecture of the Cyberflex mobile solution offers the potential to download additional service applications after deployment, opening the way for Microcell and NBC to evolve their initial offering into a true one-to-one subscriber relationship builder.
