SingTel Mobile and Motorola First to Offer Wireless Internet Access In Singapore

Motorola's L-Series+ -- The First Global Internet Phone -- Combines GSM Tri-Band with Wireless Application Protocol

Motorola, Inc. helps deliver the Internet to SingTel Mobile corporate customers with the Motorola L-Series+, Motorola's first GSM tri-band Internet-access-enabled telephone for traditional voice calls as well as Internet connectivity utilizing Motorola's Mobile Internet Exchange™ (also known as the MIX™ communications platform).

The MIX communications platform is offered by Motorola's Communications Enterprise. The MIX platform will help enable SingTel Mobile to use the Internet to provide integrated voice and data capabilities that bring mobile consumers almost anywhere the information they desire over the device or user interface of their choice. A wireless Internet end-to-end solution, it is a feature server of Motorola's Aspira™ architecture. Comprised of servers, gateways, software applications and content, the MIX platform supports a host of software applications. Additional information is available at www.motorola.com/mix.

The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) makes it possible for information to be viewed on a phone's display. The Vox Gateway and VoxML™ programming language, Motorola's precursor to the VoiceXML standard, enable enhanced voice services, such as voice dialing and the ability to listen to email, personal organizer data and Internet-based information.**

SingTel Mobile's customers are able to enjoy its e-ideas (or Innovative DIY Electronic Access Services) with the Motorola L-Series+ WAP enabled phone. Customers may use e-ideas to access stock, foreign exchange, unit trust and gaming results; search the Yellow Pages directory and bus guide; calculate home loan details; generate numbers for 4-D and Toto, and, send free Internet SMS messages to registered mobile phones or free Internet pages to registered pagers.**

"This is an integral part of SingTel Mobile's effort to make our e-ideas work for and benefit our customers. Instead of making a voice call on their mobile phones, they can now scroll through the menus on their WAP phones to get information and make transactions in a fast and very discreet manner," said Lucas Chow, SingTel Mobile's Chief Executive Officer.

"By providing SingTel Mobile with an end-to-end network and consumer solution, we have demonstrated how we have re-engineered for the digital age to provide tailored, integrated solutions for network operators and consumers alike. As well, we have further strengthened our position as a leading provider of wireless communications equipment and a reliable partner for operators," says Fernando Gomez, Corporate Vice-President and General Manager, Personal Communications Sector, Asia.
