mobilkom, Austria's leading wireless telecommunications carrier, is providing initial ecommerce services to its subscribers using Amdocs' convergent billing solution. Amdocs (NYSE:DOX) is a major international provider of customer care, billing and order management solutions to the communications industry. mobilkom is offering its 2.3 million customers convergent voice-ecommerce support, utilizing the Amdocs Ensemble system, which was implemented early last year to support mobilkom's operations.
mobilkom provides its subscribers value-added services via the handset and bills for these services via the monthly mobilkom bill. In the initial rollout of these services, mobilkom enables its subscribers to buy train tickets on the Austrian national railway.
mobilkom subscribers use their handsets to request railway schedules and order tickets. The customer uses a unique purchase code which is displayed on the customer's handset to board the train. Amdocs enables mobilkom to bill its subscribers for the timetable information as well as the ticket purchases via the standard monthly bill. The same capabilities can be used by mobilkom to charge subscribers for other value-added services provided by any content provider.
