Portal Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRSF) and LHS Group Inc. (NASDAQ: LHSG)(Neuer Markt: LHI) today announced a strategic alliance that will combine both companies' industry-leading technology and expertise in the telecommunications and Internet-based services markets. According to the memorandum of understanding, LHS and Portal will develop a direct interface between LHS' products and Portal's Infranet(R) customer care and billing software to provide an end-to-end solution for Communication Operators and Service Providers deploying IP-based services.
"Time-to-market for new services is a competitive advantage for our customers as they are faced with the challenge of quickly building a business infrastructure to support Internet applications," said Gary Cuccio, chief executive officer, LHS Group. "Our partnership with Portal will create the premier billing and operations support system for wireless Internet and next generation communication services."
Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will jointly market and integrate Portal's Infranet(R) customer management and billing software with LHS' billing and customer care system (BSCS) This integration will enable two-way movement of data between both systems so that LHS customers can maintain customer account information and bill for all voice and data services within BSCS while leveraging Infranet's real-time functionality to manage Internet and IP data services. With the joint Portal/LHS solution, LHS customers will continue to utilize their investment in BSCS, while simultaneously using Portal Infranet to extend the infrastructure that supports the wide range of new Internet services. In addition, Portal and LHS will market the integrated solution to potential new joint customers.
"The combination of Portal's real-time Infranet software to manage complex Internet-based services and LHS' industry-leading BSCS customer care & billing platform offers an unprecedented best-of-breed solution to fixed and mobile operators worldwide," said John Little, president and chief executive officer, Portal Software. "We felt teaming with LHS, the market leader of wireless customer care and billing solutions, would enhance the penetration of both companies access to the market. Together we can offer solutions that meet the market's requirements more quickly than with independent efforts."
"After extensive discussions with our clients and partners it was clear that IP service delivery and management were key components of the solution set for our customers," said Jon Limbird, executive vice president and chief technology officer, LHS Group. "Once we decided to partner for the service management layer, the selection of Portal was obvious. Portal is the leading provider of business infrastructure software for Internet and IP services."
