BarPoint.com Announces First Charter Category Sponsors for Mobile and Internet UPC Product Information and Shopping Service

Powell's Books and Insight.com's Technology Marketplace find value in BarPoint's targeted online and mobile customers

BarPoint.com (OTC BB: BPNT), the company that is revolutionizing mobile and Internet use of Universal Product Codes (UPC) for consumers, today announced its first charter category sponsors. Powell's, Inc., the largest used and new bookstore in the world, and Insight.com, the $1.5 billion global marketer of name-brand computers, hardware and software, have signed to become charter category sponsors of BarPoint's Book and Computer Hardware categories, respectively. Using either the UPC number, category, manufacturer, or product keywords, consumers can search the BarPoint database to find detailed information on the manufacturer and product as well as price comparisons for the precise product they are interested in.

The new BarPoint Category Sponsor program is designed to allow a participant's complementary product information and promotion to be integrated into BarPoint's search results and thus present further targeted opportunities to the online or mobile shopper. As charter members in the Category Sponsor program, Powell's and Insight will be featured prominently in the BarPoint search results pages for their sponsored categories. In addition to such exposure on the BarPoint website, the sponsorship opportunity will also be carried forth onto a variety of mobile devices offering the BarPoint service. Charter sponsors will also appear in some of BarPoint's newspaper advertisements in publications such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

"We are very excited that two leaders in their fields have signed on as charter category sponsors with BarPoint," stated Leigh Rothschild, CEO and founder of BarPoint.com. "We plan to have over 30 categories available through BarPoint with Powell's and Insight being joined by many other respected and well-known e-tailers and retailers as sponsors."

BarPoint's product specific UPC search delivers a highly targeted consumer who has come to BarPoint seeking information on a particular product. This educated consumer is not a browser and is an appealing draw to the major brands in all of BarPoint's current and upcoming categories such as Books, Computer Hardware, Software, Music, Video, DVD, Audio Books, Health & Beauty and more.

Book-lover's Paradise

Powell's City of Books has been proclaimed a book lover's paradise, the largest bookstore of its kind in the world. Located in downtown Portland, Oregon and occupying an entire city block, the store stocks more than a million new and used books. Nine color coded rooms house over 3,500 different sections, offering something for every interest, including an incredible selection of out-of-print and hard-to-find titles. Through its web site, Powells.com (www.powells.com), Powell's has established itself as the leading independent bookseller online.

"Online information is, in itself, a major resource for book buyers everywhere. As an independent bookseller, it's critical that we continue to provide that information to as many of our valued customers as possible," said Kanth Gopalpur, Powell's Internet Marketing Manager. "Participating in BarPoint's Charter Sponsor program allows us to take advantage of BarPoint's product specific search returns - reaching a large group of book lovers looking for detailed information on the products we provide."
