BellSouth Wireless Data Announces Plan to Become Premier Network Provider for Wireless Application Services

Industry Leader Supports MDSI, Aether Systems and Dynamic Mobile Data to Provide Hosted Wireless Data Solutions over the Nationwide BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network(SM)

BellSouth Wireless Data today unveiled its strategy to become the premier wireless data network provider for wireless Application Service Providers (ASPs), including top industry partners Mobile Data Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDSI; TSE: MMD), Aether Systems, Inc., and Dynamic Mobile Data (DMD). The three partners are developing end-to-end wireless application services enabled for the BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network for key existing and new industry market segments.

"Just as Application Service Providers for the Internet have become the ideal way to get small to mid-size companies on the Web, wireless ASP services now offer a viable opportunity for companies with limited resources to deploy a complete wireless data communications solution. We are working with some of the pioneers in wireless ASP to capture this market," said Lew Blumstein, Vice President, Enterprise and New Services Marketing, BellSouth Wireless Data. "Our nationwide, highly reliable and interactive BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network is perfectly suited to quickly deliver the information that mobile workers need to increase efficiency and productivity."

Application Service Providers are third-party entities that manage and distribute software-based services and solutions to customers across a wide area network from a central data center. ASPs allow companies with limited available resources to outsource some or all aspects of their information technology needs. With wireless ASP services, businesses can deploy a wireless data solution, such as a mobile dispatch system, without needing to retain in-house support staff.

BellSouth Wireless Data is working with market leader MDSI(R) to deliver a bundled wireless ASP offering to small to medium sized utility companies and home services companies. Recently, MDSI joined forces with OurHouse.com, the Internet's premier web site for home improvement, home services and how-to information, to provide customers with real time, on-line scheduling and wireless dispatching of home repair and home improvement services over the nationwide BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network.

Aether Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless data services and systems, is working with BellSouth Wireless Data to deliver a wireless proof-of-delivery solution for the transportation industry. The solution creates a business document that verifies wirelessly back to a central office that a package has been delivered transmitted wirelessly back to a central office. The solution allows delivery companies to provide customers with near real-time package delivery status information.

Dynamic Mobile Data, a leading provider of wireless application data services and systems, is working with BellSouth Wireless Data to deliver a bundled solution based on DMD's premier Internet-based dispatch package, MobileDispatch. Dynamic Mobile Data has already delivered solutions based on MobileDispatch for field service, pickup and delivery, trucking, insurance and numbers of other time sensitive field operations. MobileDispatch supports GPS, route planning, real-time data collection and integrates easily with legacy systems via the MobileDispatch data replication gateway.

The BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network is standards-based, and in addition to its core technology, offers connections with complementary networks and several host connectivity options. Based on the de facto international standard for wireless data communications, the core of the BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network provides extensive and seamless coverage nationwide, high reliability, low latency, industry-leading battery saving protocols and other key features.
