FirePond Wireless Solution Paves Way For New Breed Of Integrated Mobile E-Business Applications

Extends B2B Selling Capabilities to Mobile Devices World Wide

FirePond Inc. (NASDAQ:FIRE), a leader in integrated e-business sales and marketing solutions, today announced that it will deploy its applications on a variety of handheld wireless devices, including web-enabled mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and other platforms. This development will extend existing deployment options for users of the FirePond Application Suite - an integrated platform for the guided selling of complex products or services. FirePond wireless applications will initially be deployed on the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) standard to enable customers and sales users to research products, place orders, and access sales information in real-time over WAP-enabled mobile phones.

Companies using the FirePond wireless solution will expand remote information access capabilities for their customers, channel partners and sales representatives. For example, a customer will be able to enter data, obtain recommendations, and place orders in a highly mobile/portable environment. In addition, a sales executive could use a mobile device to check a particular client reference file, examine order history, or perform an account review en route to a client visit. In both cases, this content will contain the same enterprise information currently available on web-based FirePond applications. Key benefits include a user's ability to interact with the enterprise in whichever manner is most convenient. Moreover, the integrated FirePond Application Suite ensures that all channels are working together, so that information about a relevant customer purchase from a company's web site can be immediately published to a mobile sales professional's wireless device for "on-the-road" notification.

FirePond's wireless applications will be deployed on its common technology platform to offer consistent data across all of a company's selling channels, while ensuring real-time integration with back-end functions such as inventory, fulfilment, and manufacturing. FirePond's wireless solution will support various wireless mark-up languages including WML, Compact-HTML and HDML. The wireless solutions will also support multiple languages and currencies. This approach is consistent with FirePond's strategy of adapting its e-business solution to new delivery methods as they become available.

The FirePond wireless solution will be available for customer trials in the Summer of this year and will be generally available in Autumn 2000.
