Lycos and Puma to Launch Wireless Tracking; Automatic Notification of Key Online Searches Sent to Mobile Devices

Puma Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:PUMA) today announced it will provide Lycos, Inc., (NASDAQ:LCOS) one of the most visited Web destinations in the world, with round-the-clock wireless-enabled alert technology and other user-driven personalization solutions for use on the Lycos Network. When Lycos users activate the new tool on the search results page, they will receive automatic notification of any updates to the search results. Users have the flexibility to designate phones, pagers, handheld devices or their computer's email addresses as the destinations for their notification message, to notify users of any content changes.

Lycos will integrate Puma's persistent search technology with the popular Lycos search engine. Registered My Lycos users will be able to perform a search using any keyword or phrase, then receive notification of changes through any email, Web-enabled device or at their My Lycos page when content changes. In the coming months, new features will allow users to immediately identify changes in the search results by using Puma's highlighting technology, which shows in yellow highlights specifically what has changed. For example, if users are tracking whitewater rafting trips in Colorado and register for this service, when a new rafting Web page is added, users would be sent an email with a link taking them back to Lycos where the new search results on rafting would be highlighted.

"This new service combines the My Lycos start page with wireless technology to make Lycos' industry-leading personalization features available to anybody wherever they can be reached by cell phone or email," said Ron Sege, executive vice president for Lycos. "We strive to provide our users with the tools that can improve the overall efficiency of their daily lives. These applications are inherently sticky, and therefore have the strong potential to increase both the duration and frequency of visits to Lycos sites by our users."

"People rely on Lycos to provide up-to-date searches and relevant information. Now Lycos will lead all other portals with its new ability to bring people back to their site with alerts once a search gets updated," said Stephen A. Meyer, president and chief operating officer of Puma Technology.
