QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies Announces Wireless Internet Launchpad Suite to Accelerate Growth of Wireless Applications

First in Industry to Support Fully Integrated Next-Generation Multimedia, Connectivity, Position Location, Advanced User Interface and Storage Technologies with CDMA Chipsetsand System Software

QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced inauguration of the Company’s Wireless Internet Launchpad™ suite, targeted at enabling a broad range of new terminal products, applications and Internet services, including advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage functionality. QUALCOMM plans to integrate these capabilities as tightly as possible into the Company’s CDMA chipset and system software solutions to achieve the best cost-performance as well as the earliest time-to-market for manufacturers designing new classes of e-commerce-, safety-, convenience- and entertainment-enhanced mobile handsets.

QUALCOMM’s Wireless Internet Launchpad suite includes highly integrated chipset functions, system software and other add-on software that will offer manufacturers advanced Internet functionality and multimedia features while eliminating the need for additional components. The Wireless Internet Launchpad suite is divided into five functional categories:

These technologies and applications are either available or planned for integration into various upcoming chipset and system software releases from QUALCOMM. A specific set of Wireless Internet Launchpad features will be incorporated selectively into each chipset and software product, closely matching the specific functionality and cost-target objectives agreed upon in joint product planning with manufacturers and wireless service operators worldwide. Wireless Internet Launchpad capabilities will continue to evolve with future product definition.

Today, the first generation of microbrowser-enabled mobile personal information management devices are beginning to appear in the marketplace. Within the next few years, a stunning array of potential new wireless devices, applications and services combining the Wireless Internet Launchpad suite and QUALCOMM’s chipset and system software, may include:

PDAs that change functionality via rapid Internet downloads; intelligent wireless navigation devices that identify destinations, businesses, and locations of friends, family and services; mobile music browsing, downloading and playback; short-range wireless Bluetooth interconnections; mobile Internet chat rooms; up-to-the-minute local and international news, sports and financial information via streaming video; location-specific information from area businesses; and wireless video-mail—available anytime, anywhere.
