Ericsson Extends DeliveryNet to Mobile Workers with Descartes' New Palm-Based Wireless Solutions

Radio Division Gains Global Order Cycle Visibility Using Descartes' Business-to-Business E-Commerce Fulfillment Solution

The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (NASDAQ:DSGX) (TSE:DSG), a leading provider of B2B e-commerce solutions, announced today that Ericsson - a world-leading supplier of telecommunications and data communications solutions - has successfully extended its radio division's DeliveryNet with the addition of Descartes' wireless mobile solutions to gain global order cycle visibility.

Ericsson has provided their logistics service providers with mobile handheld devices that allow their workers to send updates to the Descartes network about the status of orders as shipments are sent and received from warehouses, and as deliveries and installations of their radio base stations are completed. This real-time status information is visible to the individuals involved in Ericsson's global logistics operations so that they can better control and monitor internal operations as well as service and delivery to their customers.

Warehouse workers use SPT 1700 handheld computers from Symbol Technologies (NYSE:SBL) with integrated barcode scanning devices running Descartes' mobile solutions to scan barcodes on shipments that are loaded onto delivery vehicles. Truck drivers and installation engineers use the handheld units to scan the shipments when they are unloaded, delivered and installed. The handheld unit communicates with an Ericsson model SH888 mobile phone, which is used to send pickup, delivery and installation statuses to Descartes' e-Frame(TM) - the connectivity and visibility technology and architecture upon which Ericsson's DeliveryNet is built.

Ericsson worked jointly with Descartes to design the mobile applications running on the Palm operating system on Symbol Technologies' SPT 1700 devices. Ericsson has already reduced lead times by 72% and enhanced delivery performance and customer service levels with the implementation of its Descartes DeliveryNet. With the successful completion of the pilot for Descartes' palm-based wireless solutions, Ericsson has begun the first rollout of the wireless capabilities to Germany.

"Descartes' wireless mobile solutions provide Ericsson and the many trading partners connected to Ericsson's DeliveryNet with real-time information about logistics activities as those activities are carried out in the field," said Enrique Gamazo, Managing Director at Descartes. "Such direct and timely information is essential to creating high-velocity fulfillment networks that deliver world-class customer service."
