Extended Systems Expands Presence in the Enterprise Market with Mobile Synchronization and Management Solutions

Key industry leader chooses XTNDConnect Server for enterprise customers

Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND) announced today that Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) has chosen XTNDConnect Server as the recommended enterprise synchronization solution for the new Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC.

The two companies also announced that they will work together to develop secure, wireless solutions optimized for enterprise environments.

XTNDConnect Server is designed to give corporate IT managers the ability to manage and deploy the tools needed to integrate and expand the use of Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs throughout the enterprise. Users can synchronize their mobile device directly with corporate groupware servers, such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, or any ODBC-compliant database. Additionally, users can access these enterprise servers via wired and wireless connections, such as USB, analog modem, GSM, CDMA and CDPD.

"We selected Extended Systems because they are focused on providing corporate synchronization solutions for mobile devices such as the iPAQ Pocket PC," said Ted Clark, Vice President iAppliances, Compaq Computer Corporation. "XTNDConnect Server's support of multiple platforms, data and device management capabilities, and reputation for high quality and support made it the best choice for our new iPAQ Pocket PC."

The Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC is a pocket-sized PC created in the iPAQ style of simplifying the computing experience for busy people who need connectivity to the Internet and their business information any time, anywhere. Modular slide-on Expansion Packs enable the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC to accommodate standard PC Cards or Compact Flash cards, or gain wireless access to the complete Worldwide Web and corporate networks.

"The combination of Compaq's new iPAQ Pocket PC and XTNDConnect Server will allow companies to quickly and securely extend the use of applications from the mobile enterprise," said Extended Systems CEO and President Steve Simpson.
