Novatel Wireless, Inc., a leading provider of wireless Internet solutions, today announced that they will be working with Hewlett-Packard Company to create wireless modem accessories for HP's portable appliances. This announcement coincides with Microsoft's Pocket PC launch event at Grand Central Station today where Novatel Wireless and HP unveiled a wireless CDPD modem accessory for HP's Jornada 540 Series Color Pocket PC.
Building upon the success of their award-winning Minstrel(R) line of Wireless Palmtop Modems and Merlin(TM) Wireless PC Cards, Novatel Wireless is designing and manufacturing custom wireless modems for HP that will provide wireless connectivity to email, corporate LANs and the Internet. HP is managing content, product fulfillment and carrier relationships as part of its service offering. Product is expected to be available in the summer of 2000.
"We are excited about our relationship with HP and what it will mean for its portable computing customers," said Robert Corey, CEO of Novatel Wireless, Inc. "Our wireless data modems will give HP's mobile device users the fast, wireless information access and the synchronization capabilities they are looking for."
"We chose Novatel Wireless as our preferred wireless modem vendor because they are a recognized leader in the wireless data marketplace and have designed sleek, affordable products that our customers want," said Bhushan Fotedar, general manager of HP's Wireless and Internet Services, Personal Appliances Services Organization.
