Odyssey Software Enables Enhanced Remote Data Access From New Pocket PCs

Free ViaDB-TM- License Offered as Part of the Pocket PC Launch

Odyssey Software today announced a strategic relationship with Microsoft Corp. that has resulted in Odyssey Software's ViaDB(TM), a universal OLE DB provider that works with new Windows-powered Pocket PCs to enable direct online access to data stored in enterprise systems. As part of the Pocket PC Launch and to demonstrate ViaDB's effectiveness and ease of use to developers, Odyssey Software is offering free permanent single-user licenses to those who visit the Microsoft Pocket PC Launch Web sites: (www.microsoft.com/pocketpc or www.microsoft.com/windowsce).

ViaDB enables direct online access to data stored on servers managed by Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, IBM DB2, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, and other enterprise systems with OLE DB or ODBC connectivity. ViaDB integrates with Version 3.0 of the ActiveX Data Objects for Windows CE (ADOCE 3.0)--included with the new Pocket PCs powered by Windows --to allow rapid deployment of robust enterprise data access applications.

"This is an opportunity for potential users to see for themselves--without cost or obligation--how easy it is to develop robust applications that link Pocket PCs to the information stored in their enterprise systems," said Mark Gentile, President and CEO of Odyssey Software. "The combination of ViaDB and Microsoft ADOCE 3.0 offers users a seamless method to simultaneously access local and remote data stores from Pocket PC devices."

"The critical component of enterprise applications is data -- and simultaneous integration of remote and local data on the device is the key to maximizing effectiveness," said Rogers Weed, director of marketing for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "For enterprise users and developers, ViaDB and ADOCE 3.0 are ideal complements that enable this type of highly effective business solution for mobile professionals."

Users of ViaDB, including corporate developers, solution providers and commercial software companies, can use ADOCE to gain direct online, real-time, interactive access to their centrally managed enterprise data stores. They also have the option of interfacing directly with ViaDB using the OLE DB API, improving flexibility and providing increased functionality for the developer.

ViaDB comprises a client-side provider DLL and a Windows NT- and Windows 2000-based service. More information about this offer and permanent single-user licenses are available free of charge at www.pocketpc.com or www.microsoft.com/windowsce. Larger deployment licenses are available directly from Odyssey Software. Offer of a free permanent single user license is for a limited time, and may be modified or discontinued at the discretion of Odyssey Software or Microsoft Corporation.
