PacketVideo and Compaq Team Up to Deliver Wireless Multimedia Capabilities on Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC

PacketVideo Corp. (proposed Nasdaq NMS: PVDO) today announced that it will collaborate with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) to deliver wireless multimedia capabilities on the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC.

The Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC will support PacketVideo's PVPlayer(TM) MPEG-4 compliant decoding software, which will be available for free download by Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC owners.

Later this year, Compaq plans to distribute PVPlayer on CD-ROMs included with the iPAQ Pocket PC. Additionally, a PVPlayer icon is included in the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC's Q Start pull-down menu to provide customers quick access to PacketVideo's wireless multimedia software.

PVPlayer, one component of PacketVideo's PVPlatform(TM) end-to-end wireless multimedia solution, decodes rich digital media for viewing on mobile information devices. PVPlayer is designed to support multiple operating systems, including Microsoft's new Pocket PC. The streaming rich digital media can be delivered over any wireless data networks at data rates ranging from as low as 14.4 kbps to 768 kbps.

The standards-based decoder is optimized for the mobile environment. PacketVideo's error-resilient technology recognizes and conceals errors inherent in wireless networks, enabling mobile information devices to receive enhanced video image quality. Potential applications include wireless delivery of news and financial information, sports, weather, traffic reports, short entertainment clips and music using full-motion video and audio, not just text.

"PacketVideo's industry-leading software is a perfect pairing with Compaq's leading-edge iPAQ Pocket PC," said Ted Clark, vice president of iAppliances, Compaq Computer Corp. "The combination of PacketVideo's PVPlayer and Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC demonstrates a new degree of versatility for the handheld PC, providing customers not only mobility and access, but a rich media experience."

The Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC is a revolutionary new pocket-sized PC created in the iPAQ style of simplifying the computing experience for busy people who need connectivity to the Internet and their business information any time, anywhere. Modular slide-on Expansion Packs enable the iPAQ Pocket PC to accommodate standard PC Cards or Compact Flash cards, or gain wireless access to the complete Worldwide Web and corporate networks.

Compaq designed the iPAQ Pocket PC from the ground up to better meet the needs of today's busy employees operating at "Internet speed." A slim, yet powerful handheld PC companion, the iPAQ Pocket PC has the flexibility to transform into any number of devices to enable real-time information access through the Expansion Pack system. Both individuals and corporate IT departments can configure the iPAQ Pocket PC to target their specific needs, from a corporate standard device to a unique personal information manager.

"We are very pleased to be working with Compaq to enable the delivery of wireless multimedia to consumers," said Karen Brailean, vice president of product marketing for PacketVideo. "The Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC offers the power and expandability necessary to deliver an entirely new class of applications."
