Philadelphia and Chicago Service Areas Begin Ricochet WAP Deployment

Metricom, Inc (Nasdaq:MCOM) today advises that Ricochet Wired Access Point (WAP) deployment has begun in the Philadelphia and Chicago service areas. Marking a key construction milestone, the first WAP in these markets were installed last week.

WAPs are integral to the Ricochet system, which includes wireless modems on portable computing devices, microcell radios attached to streetlight and utility poles, WAPs, and a local Network Interconnect Facility (NIF). WAPs convert information sent over the Ricochet system via radio frequencies into data packets to be transmitted outside the local market through the NIF to the Company's wired Internet Procotol network.

Ricochet Advisories are intended to update the industry regarding Metricom's progress toward delivering on the promise of high-speed mobile wireless access.
