V-ONE Provides VPN Security For Windows Powered Pocket PCs

V-ONE Delivers Industry-Leading VPN For Pocket PCs, the Next Generation PDA From Microsoft and its Hardware Manufacturer Partners

V-ONE(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: VONE), a leading provider of client/server Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), today announced that its SmartGate(R) VPN product provides the industry's leading VPN support for Windows-powered Pocket PCs, the next generation Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).

Microsoft and partners launched the Pocket PC product line today in New York City, touting the devices' ability to keep users connected to their most essential information through ease of use, fast synchronization connection speeds and expandability.

As a Microsoft Pocket PC Launch Partner, V-ONE is demonstrating at the event how easy it is to make these devices part of SmartGate's VPN, regardless of whether the device is in wireline or wireless mode.

The new line of Pocket PCs, available from Casio, Compaq, Hewlett Packard and Symbol, expand the functionality and usage of the PDAs. The Pocket PC provides the best of Windows, including the key elements of the Web and applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer, making it familiar and easy to use.

Pocket PCs also boast handwriting recognition so people can take notes just as they do on paper, the ability to read e-mail attachments such as Word and Excel documents, color screens and up to 340 megabytes of memory with a CF expansion card, the highest memory capacity on the market for a PDA.

With SmartGate, Pocket PCs connect either wirelessly or by conventional network connection to access applications via the strong VPN security previously available only in laptop and desktop PCs.

SmartGate's mutual authentication, two-factor user authentication, fine-grained access control and strong Triple DES (Digital Encryption Standard) encryption permit an organization's most sensitive data to be shared safely with authorized users virtually anywhere in the world, whether or not they are hard-wired to a network.

"Pocket PCs and SmartGate extend VPN security to the farthest reaches of the enterprise," said Douglas Dedo, group product manager in the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "Security is a critical element in corporations' mobile computing standards, and Microsoft is pleased to see V-ONE deliver this compelling solution."

"SmartGate for Pocket PCs uses V-ONE's patented On-Line Registration process to provide what we believe is the easiest client deployment in the industry," said David D. Dawson, CEO of V-ONE Corporation. "Microsoft's Pocket PC platform is centered around creating an easy end-user experience right out of the box, so we believe these two products are a perfect fit. The demand for VPNs that work over PDAs is exploding and our strategic relationship with Microsoft provides this essential security on the latest device available."

SmartGate for Pocket PCs works with the Citrix(R) WinFrame from Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) or Microsoft Terminal Server from Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) that enable 'thin client' computing on many platforms including Windows CE.

This capability is especially important for handheld computers as it enables these devices to access applications on a central server that are too large to run or store on the Pocket PC. Together, SmartGate and Citrix or Terminal Server give users a high level of data security for a wide variety of sensitive business applications.
