Oberthur Card Systems, a global leader in the development and delivery of electronic and mobile commerce solutions, has developed a betting application for Cable & Wireless HKT Mobile Services enabling mobile subscribers to place bets using their mobile phones.
This betting application has been developed on Oberthur's SIMphonIC card, the first ever Java-powered SIM Toolkit card. Thanks to SIM Toolkit technology combined with Java, development time has been dramatically reduced and the application is chip and handset independent. The application is hosted in the EEPROM. A 32K memory has been used to support this customized application.

This mobile betting service enables subscribers to take advantage of a range of online benefits. Racing enthusiasts will not only be able to place bets on their favorite horses or races, but also transfer the money to fund this flutter from one of their bank accounts - all via their mobile handsets. The service will also enable users to purchase lottery tickets over the air with a choice of either manual or random selection. Finally the service will allow subscribers to check the balance of their betting or bank accounts.
This new service will support all banks in Hong Kong and will ensure the highest degree of security and flexibility for fund transfer.
