Agilent Technologies' Web-based and Wireless Solutions Give Healthcare Professionals Access To Vital Patient Data

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced it is launching a family of wireless and Web-enabled patient-monitoring solutions -- including enhancements to its flagship products -- which provide healthcare professionals secure access to life-critical patient data from virtually anywhere.

"Agilent is harnessing the power of technology to deliver information wherever it's needed," said Tony Ecock, general manager of Agilent's Healthcare Solutions Group Patient Monitoring Division. "Whether that means linking to a hospital's step-down unit or to a physician's laptop computer, our goal is to put data in the hands of clinicians, so that they can make better-informed, more timely decisions. With the addition of wireless capability to its overall patient information system, Agilent is supporting protocol changes in emergency and progressive care environments. The goal is not only greater efficiency, but a higher quality of care."

Wireless Capability

The Agilent M3 and M4 portable monitors deliver two-way wireless communication between the patient's side and the Agilent Information Center -- a decentralized system for surveillance monitoring and comprehensive data analysis -- allowing caregivers to provide monitoring where and when it's needed.

The enhanced M3 Series monitors feature industry-standard technology developed by Proxim Inc., the world's leader in wireless LAN technology for healthcare.

Web-Enabled Solutions

The Agilent Information Center -- a secure archive for information from all Agilent patient-monitoring systems -- now provides access to patient data via standard Web browsers, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer. Clinicians can view stored data provided by bedside, telemetry, and wireless monitors from home, office, or any point of access to the Web. The CMS 2001 Series and the V24/26 Series of patient monitors now feature Web Link, which extends Web-enabled applications and hospital Internet/intranet information to the patient's side.

These advancements mark the latest step in Agilent's vision of solutions that use standard Web technologies to deploy information throughout a hospital's existing information infrastructure.
