The Taiwanese PCS provider, KG Telecom, has become the first operator in Asia to activate a GPRS (general packet radio service) wireless platform for mobile broadband Web service.
The GPRS system deployed by KG Telecom provides subscribers with instant, "always-on" IP connectivity at a packet data transmission rate of over 115 kbps - 10 times faster than conventional "second generation" wireless technology. As a result, KG Telecom will be able to provide advanced Web-based services, ranging from multimedia messaging to wireless corporate Internet, while eliminating annoying modem delays.
