Libertel to Implement CMG WAP Service Broker Under Vodafone Umbrella Agreement

Libertel Will Be the First Vodafone AirTouch Subsidiary to Implement WAP Services

CMG Telecommunications has announced that Libertel will be the first non-UK subsidiary of the Vodafone AirTouch Group to benefit from the WSB umbrella agreement signed in February. The agreement covered the supply of WAP Service Broker(TM) solutions for its mobile operator member companies around the world. The CMG WAP Service Broker is already operational for testing purposes in the Libertel network and will be capable of handling high throughput. WAP gives mobile phone users direct access to a personal selection of Internet content. It combines the simplicity of Internet surfing with the convenience of making a telephone call. CMG's WAP Service Broker offers operators the opportunity to make available only those Internet services that are tuned to the mobile environment and to develop secure, well-manageable services.

"CMG's unique service broker architecture and legacy phone support will allow Libertel to create portfolios of services and offer them to targeted groups of users," Kees Pannekoek, chief technical officer, Libertel, said. Libertel is the second largest mobile provider in The Netherlands, with approximately two and a half million subscribers. The Vodafone AirTouch Group, the largest mobile operator in the world, owns 70% of Libertel shares and has more than 49 million proportionate customers in 25 countries.

"We are pleased that Libertel is the first company in the Vodafone AirTouch Group who will implement our WAP Service Broker, as it will allow them to maintain the competitive edge that they have established," Peter Maathuis, vice president global sales & marketing, CMG Telecommunications, said.

The WAP Service Broker is fully WAP 1.1 compliant and runs on high performing UNIX platforms. The solution is fully scaleable and can also be provided on resilient configurations for achieving highest availability in the WAP gateway market.
