NetRail Announces `Mobile Extreme' Wireless Internet Content and Portal Services for Tier 2 and Tier 3 Wireless Carriers

NetRail Partners With Wireless ASP Astata to Launch a Fully Managed, Wireless Data Implementation, Application Hosting and Content Service

NetRail, Inc., a national Tier One broadband service provider, has selected Astata Corporation, a leading Wireless Application service provider, to create compelling wireless applications and content for Tier 2 and Tier 3 Wireless Carriers to be offered under the product name "Mobile Extreme."

Mobile Extreme is a turnkey solution with a migration strategy to 3G. NetRail's solution enables wireless operators to deliver wireless Internet and data services to their existing wireless customers without any significant up-front costs, technical staff, and application development. Mobile Extreme's initial release will be available to carriers and operators using CDMA, TDMA, GSM and CDPD technologies by Summer 2000.

The alliance allows NetRail to leverage its national fully managed Tier One backbone and implement a centralized wireless data portal and application gateway center. NetRail's Mobile Extreme service will include wireless operation and implementation support to aid smaller carriers with the necessary equipment upgrades. NetRail's backbone will be offered to each Mobile Extreme wireless carrier/operator allowing them to connect to Astata's central wireless application hosting facility.

"NetRail provides IP services to many carriers who want and demand wireless solutions," said Steve Massey, CEO of NetRail. "Astata's expertise in wireless application development combined with NetRail's proficiency in broadband services will allow Tier 2 and Tier 3 carriers the capability to compete in today's marketplace by increasing incremental subscriber growth and reducing churn."

"We are very excited about our partnership with NetRail. By leveraging our wireless application and wireless Internet portal services and vendor relationships, we eliminate many of the barriers to entry, such as, migration and costs in the wireless Internet and data marketplace for Tier 2 and Tier 3 wireless operators and carriers," said Ken Nelson, president and CEO of Astata.

Mobile Extreme's first portal release will include web-based and wireless email, calendaring, contact management and other common PIM services, stock quotes, news and weather, online banking, mobile e-commerce and shopping services, restaurant reservations, games and entertainment services. In addition, Mobile Extreme customers will also benefit from the various B2B wireless application services currently offered under Astata's Wireless Mobile Professional Suite --Expedition.

Other premium services will include remote document printing and faxing from wireless phones, e-mail attachment viewing and printing from mobile phones, secure corporate Intranet and Extranet access via mobile phones, and Pocketledger(TM) (Astata's Time and billing and expense application).
