OpenSales Unveils WAP-Enabled, Open Source E-Commerce Applications

Production Versions of OpenSales AllCommerce-TM- and OpenSales Retailer-TM- Now Freely Available

OpenSales, Inc., the leading provider of open source e-commerce applications, today announced that it has released the first e-commerce software suite to fully support WAP-enabled devices such as electronic organizers and cellular telephones. Comprised of the OpenSales AllCommerce(TM) platform and the OpenSales Retailer(TM) application, the software is designed to easily customize online pricing, inventory and ordering information, while offering multiple language and currency support.

Both OpenSales AllCommerce and OpenSales Retailer support the Linux, UNIX, and Windows NT server platforms and may be downloaded free of charge at http://www.opensales.com.

"With its offerings, OpenSales has the potential to redefine how e-commerce applications are built and distributed," said Bill Claybrook, research director at Aberdeen Group. "The open source model is compelling for e-commerce because features demanded by the marketplace can be quickly rolled into the product."

"Because the majority of commercial sites are now being built in-house, the market for e-commerce applications is ready to explode," said Bonnie Crater, president and CEO of OpenSales, Inc. "By providing non-technical people with a complete feature set to control an e-commerce site, OpenSales has made business online accessible to marketing professionals and merchandising managers representatives."

E-Commerce Platform and Retailing Application

Designed to provide the core modules needed by any business operating online, OpenSales AllCommerce 1.0 provides all the functionality required for content creation, inventory management, product ordering, statistical analysis and brick and mortar-like merchandising. Currency support is provided for the United States, Canada, Holland, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom; support for multiple languages in one product allows multilingual sites to operate smoothly. Other key features of the e-commerce platform include barcode reading and support for accounting systems unique to individual businesses.

OpenSales Retailer 1.0 provides features specific to online merchandising and includes modules for wish lists and gift registries. Default store templates reduce the need for in-house HTML design talent. Other features of the application provide the ability to manage shipping redirection for inventory cancellations and returns--and a customer tracking analysis tool that provides aggregate data of consumer visits to determine how to best place Web site merchandise. OpenSales Retailer software also works with the unique mesh data structure of OpenSales AllCommerce, which allows for the linkage of complementary objects so consumers can find related items in the same way as they do in a physical shopping environment.

Other features of OpenSales software include a two-layer server technology where parallel machines constantly monitor information for heightened reliability--as well as the ability to run on any major database to process thousands of Web transactions per second on inexpensive clusters of systems.

As the year progresses, OpenSales will introduce other business-specific applications to work with OpenSales AllCommerce.

To maximize use of the software, OpenSales provides a range of professional and technical services for the installation, customization and ongoing support of commercial Web sites. Additional OpenSales services include project management, architecture, consultation, pre-launch hosting and customized security.
