Xircom Bundles AvantGo Software to Enable Internet Access for Handspring Visor Handheld Users

Web Access Via Xircom SpringPort Module Demonstrated at Handspring European Launch Event

Xircom, Inc. (Nasdaq:XIRC), the leading provider of mobile information access solutions, today announced that it has bundled AvantGo software to enable Internet access for the Handspring(TM) Visor(TM) via Xircom's SpringPort(TM) modules.

Based on the Palm Computing platform, the Visor is a pocket-sized handheld computer with an innovative Springboard(TM) expansion slot that allows users to interchange modules and easily customize the functionality of the product. Under the terms of the agreement, Xircom's modem, Ethernet and wireless Springboard-based solutions will provide immediate, plug-and-play access to AvantGo's award-winning mobile Internet service.

Xircom will demonstrate this web browsing solution in both London and Hamburg during Handspring's European Launch Events, May 3rd and 4th, 2000.

"One of the primary objectives for creating the Springboard expansion platform was to help enable and simplify mobile access to Internet content," said Ed Colligan, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Handspring. "With Xircom's expertise in streamlined communications solutions and AvantGo's proven and free Internet service for handhelds, this solution will provide an important and useful expansion option for Visor customers."

Interactive Internet Access in the Palm of Your Hand

Springboard technology is a flexible, robust, "plug and play" platform that provides reliable expansion for Handspring's Visor handheld computer. In the summer of 2000, Xircom will begin offering Ethernet, 56K modem, Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless Ethernet SpringPort modules, in order to expand the information access capabilities of the Handspring Visor.

Out of the box, Xircom's SpringPort solutions provide users of the Handspring Visor with access to AvantGo's free, mobile Internet service, connecting users to more than 350 optimized channels providing the latest news, sports, entertainment and more from major media partners such as Le Monde, Guardian Unlimited, FOXSports.com, MapQuest.com and The New York Times. Users can also view their favorite websites by simply visiting www.avantgo.com and creating a personalized channel.

"We are pleased to have AvantGo integrated into the Xircom SpringPort solutions because now, out of the box, users can access interactive and personalized content from the web on their Visor just as easily as they can on other Palm OS or Windows CE platform devices," said Mike Aufricht, general manager of AvantGo Mobile Internet.

"Xircom continues to provide a full range of information access solutions for a variety of mobile computing devices," said John DiGiovanni, director of marketing, Xircom access cards business unit. "AvantGo's mobile Internet service is an ideal value-add to our SpringPort modules for the Handspring Visor because Internet access is a crucial ingredient in making the handheld computer a powerful, information-rich tool."
