"Motorola is pleased to work with Asia.com and other leading Internet companies to promote WAP solutions in China," said Thomas Masci, Corporate Vice President of Motorola Inc, and General Manager of Personal Communications Sector, GC. "Motorola has adopted a strategy to nurture the wireless Internet business through new applications and services. In addition to providing a series of Chinese language WAP-enabled handsets and systems, Motorola is leveraging its leading technologies and total WAP solution to team up with industrial leaders like Asia.com to proliferate Wireless Internet applications. Our objective is to bring more splendid and tangible applications for consumers to experience the value of wireless Internet."

"Asia.com is a first mover in the wireless market in Asia and will continue to be a dominant player in the Asian wireless industry providing the most sought after information and services for the business-to-business and consumer markets," said Allan Kwan, CEO of Asia.com.

"Today, six million of the 50 million cellular phone users in China have wireless access and that number is expected to grow tremendously. In fact, China's Ministry of Information Industry predicts mobile-Internet subscribers in China will exceed the number of customers who access the Internet via PC by 2002, making cellular phones a far more lucrative platform for e-commerce than PCs. Asia.com has specifically targeted services that can take advantage of this wireless growth and will continue to expand its leadership in this area," said Kwan.
