AvantGo Demonstrates Solutions At Ericsson's New Berkeley Wireless Center

AvantGo Debuts GPRS-Compliant Software at Bay Area Event

AvantGo, Inc., a mobile Internet company, today announced that it is demonstrating its newly GPRS-compliant AvantGo mobile Internet service and AvantGo Enterprise(tm) solutions at today's opening of Ericsson, Inc.'s new Berkeley Wireless Center.

AvantGo joined the Mobile Application Initiative (MAI), an Ericsson-led initiative designed to support the rapid creation and adoption of mobile Internet applications for next generation wireless services, including General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Third Generation (3G) technologies, earlier this year.

"We are pleased to have AvantGo debuting its GPRS-compliant software at the opening of our Berkeley Wireless Center," said Michael Eslamian, Ericsson's managing director of MAI-Americas. "With GPRS, AvantGo's individual and enterprise mobile users will have faster and more cost-effective wireless access to information in all of the places around that world where we are deploying GPRS."

"Our software and services bridge the gap between the Internet, wireless and mobile technologies and wireless services like GPRS provide our customers with greater choice and increased on-line access to information that is important to them," said Mike Aufricht, general manager of AvantGo Mobile Internet. "We have a strong commitment to developing products based on open standards, so we are pleased to be supporting GPRS, a wireless standard that make it easier for individuals to obtain the information they want and need, when and where they need it most."

The convergence of telecommunications and data communications, GPRS is a packet data overlay to the GSM digital cellular standard that allows higher transmission speeds and continuous mobile connectivity. Using GPRS and AvantGo software allows consumers with wireless devices to have "always connected, always on-line" access to optimized AvantGo channels of content and interactive applications and mobile professionals access to their corporate intranet, as well as extranet applications. On the fly, AvantGo reformats and compresses industry-standard HTML, delivering content to mobile device users over the wireless network quickly, reliably and cost-effectively.
