Centura Software Mobilizes the Enterprise at PC Expo with First Public Showing of its eSNAPP 2.0 Connectivity Server and Launch of its db.star Database Family

At this year’s PC Expo 2000, June 27–29, 2000 in New York City, Centura™ Software Corp. (NASDAQ: CNTR), a global leader and provider of solutions that mobilize the enterprise, will announce two new products that complement Centura’s end-to-end mobile computing solutions. The eSNAPP 2.0 applianceconnectivity server extends the power of business data and industrial enterprises to handhelds and Information Appliances (IA). Centura’s db.star is a secure, high-performance, ultra-small footprint, open source, and embeddable database for handheld devices, designed to run on various platforms, including the Palm OS® platform, Linux and Windows CE/Pocket PC. A Windows version is also provided for cross-platform development.

Centura will be the first company to show a non-Windows device accessing COM objects when it demos eSNAPP 2.0 via an enterprise sales order automation application at the Palm Pavilion, booth, #3404. The same COM object business logic will be invoked by the PC browser and the handheld using a standard PC, a Palm Computing device, and a Symbol 1740 device. The addition of an eSNAPP 2.0 server, without any other infrastructural modification, will allow the eSNAPP-enabled mobile devices to access the same enterprise application as the PC does, extending the enterprise beyond its wired boundaries.

While most handhelds are regarded only as data gathering devices, Centura’s demo will transform Palm™ handheld computers into enterprise information query, messaging, and reporting tools. In addition, eSNAPP 2.0 will be shown transmitting instant, event-triggered message broadcasts to several handheld devices, as well as facilitating device-to-device messaging. With this presentation of eSNAPP’s features, Centura will demonstrate real-time online enterprise access for mobile workers.

"We’re pleased Centura will be demonstrating a Palm OS handheld solution to access COM objects at our booth at PC Expo," said Christy Wyatt, director, strategic alliance and marketing development for Palm, Inc.

Centura will also be launching its db.star family of embeddable databases at PC Expo, demonstrating db.linux, a member of the db.star family, at Panasonic’s DVD-RAM partner pavilion, booth # 1C02–1C03. Recently, the DVD Forum announced that Centura’s db.linux meets its interoperability certification requirements. db.linux will now be available as the Linux platform embeddable, open source database of choice to companies integrating Panasonic’s, Hitachi’s or Toshiba’s rewritable DVD drives.

"The events at PC Expo illustrate that Centura has achieved complete mobilization of the enterprise," said Scott Broomfield, Chairman and CEO of Centura. "Our end-to-end solutions, starting with Centura’s Team Developer 2000 development platform and continuing with the Velocis Database Server, the eSNAPP connectivity server, and now our db.star family of embeddable data management solutions gives the enterprise total access to information, in real-time and with complete security."
