Extended Systems to Equip Fujitsu with Bluetooth Technology for picoJava

XTNDAccess Blue SDK to Enable Wireless Communication

Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leading provider of mobile data management and short-range wireless connectivity solutions, is equipping Fujitsu (TSE:6702) with Bluetooth technology for Fujitsu's Java(TM) solutions based on picoJava(TM)-II chips.

Extended Systems' XTNDAccess(TM) Blue SDK, an embedded protocol stack, was ported to run on Fujitsu's picoJava-II based chip, thus providing Fujitsu picoJava customers with a software kit that enables Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Bluetooth technology will accelerate the expansion of Fujitsu's Java solutions into various embedded fields. These include the emerging networked appliance markets, including smart handheld devices, portable game machines, communication markets, home and office equipment and auto navigation systems.

"We believe our software development kit forms a foundation for innovative, new products based on Bluetooth technology," said Extended Systems President and CEO Steve Simpson. "We are proud to add Fujitsu to the list of major corporations who are relying on Extended Systems to help them bring Bluetooth solutions to the marketplace."

"Bluetooth is going to revolutionize embedded device communication capabilities, as well as stimulate related product sales growth worldwide," said Masami Sankoda, General Manager of Fujitsu's System LSI Software Division. "Our relationship with Extended Systems is going to help us take advantage of that growth by enabling us to offer end-to-end Bluetooth solutions to our customers."

Fujitsu is the latest company to announce collaboration with Extended Systems to bring Bluetooth-enabled solutions to the marketplace. 3Com has licensed Extended Systems Bluetooth embedded protocol stacks for implementation in next-generation Palm, Inc. products; Motorola has licensed the company's Bluetooth transport software protocols for use in new cell phones and pagers; and, most recently, Intel announced it is licensing Extended Systems' synchronization application software to bundle with its Bluetooth Windows solutions.
