GemStone/J Plugs Into Wireless M-Commerce

GemStone Systems Partners With SoftWired to Offer JMS Support for Web to Wireless Applications

Bundled with advanced iBus(TM) technology, GemStone/J(R) is the first application server to enable real time transactions on wireless and handheld devices

In an effort to provide full support for wireless and handheld devices, GemStone Systems, Inc., the software infrastructure technology leader for the new B2B economy, and SoftWired, a leading provider of enterprise messaging middleware for the Java(TM) platform, announced a strategic technology relationship that bundles the SoftWired iBus(TM) Java Messaging Service (JMS) technology with the latest version of the GemStone/J(R) application server.

iBus is the world's first wireless JMS that enables devices running PalmOS, Symbian, or Windows CE to perform e-commerce transactions with unprecedented reliability and security levels. iBus automatically guarantees the execution of wireless e-commerce transactions, such as trading stocks in real time.

GemStone customers are benefiting from the adaptable Extreme Clustering(TM) architecture of GemStone/J, which makes extensive use of Java(TM) 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) technology and standards to provide the powerful platform solutions that B2B companies require. iBus takes full advantage of GemStone/J's Java-based platform providing complete mobility to e-businesses anticipating the wireless revolution.

"This partnership is a major breakthrough for GemStone customers, who can now deploy highly scalable, wireless JMS applications and integrate these seamlessly in their mobile devices," said Doug Pollack, vice president of marketing for GemStone Systems, Inc. "SoftWired's iBus is all about timeliness, mobility, security and guaranteed delivery, which are critical requirements for today's e-business economy. "

"GemStone's Extreme Clustering(TM) technology provides the opportunity to deploy JMS in a highly-performant, secure and reliable environment," said Marcel Altherr, CEO for Softwired. "Users of SoftWired's technology will be able to develop next-generation wireless applications ranging from mobile e-commerce solutions to online multi-user games."

The bundling of the two products will begin this summer with the release of GemStone/J Version 4.0. About GemStone Systems, Inc.
