Macromedia and Nokia Announce Availability of Nokia WML Studio for Macromedia Dreamweaver

New extended functionality enables developers to visually author wireless Web content

Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq:MACR), the leading provider of solutions for compelling and effective Web sites, and Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the availability of the Nokia WML Studio for Macromedia(R) Dreamweaver(R) software.

The Studio will enable developers to use Macromedia Dreamweaver software, the market-leading visual Web authoring product for professional Web developers, to author Wireless Markup Language (WML) content for delivery to Nokia and other WAP wireless device customers. The Nokia WML Studio for Dreamweaver software fully supports the WML 1.1 standard and is available for free online on the Macromedia Exchange for Dreamweaver software at http://exchange.macromedia.com.

The Nokia WML Studio for Macromedia Dreamweaver software enables the 650,000-strong Dreamweaver developer community to create WML decks and cards, insert WBMP images, modify text, and implement anchors and events within the familiar Macromedia Dreamweaver user interface. The WML Studio allows developers to preview their work on the Nokia phone simulator directly from Dreamweaver software. The WML Studio tracks the compiled size of WML decks and includes a debugger allowing validation of WML code as it is created.

"I applaud Macromedia's effort in working with Nokia to develop solutions for WAP Forum ratified standards such as WML 1.1," said James Fiduccia, senior information architect at Sapient Corporation. "The Nokia WML Studio for Dreamweaver invites developers to create the next generation of content for wireless devices from within the recognizable environment of Dreamweaver, making the transition to this exciting new medium seamless and exciting."

"We see a need for developers and designers alike to have a familiar tool that they can use to create sites to run on multiple platforms, as wireless connections for Internet browsing is going to be a fast-paced ride in the next 2 years," said Neil Wooding, managing director for NetMaster Communications, Ltd. "The Nokia WML Studio for Dreamweaver brings this dream a step closer into the hands of the people who will shape this future."

"The interface for the Nokia WML Studio beta fits into Dreamweaver seamlessly and it will allow us to give our clients an extra dimension to their Web site, particularly portal sites," said David Bishop, design director for Front-Page Design. "All the features are easy to include and we'll be using the studio a lot in the future as WAP phones continue to gain popularity."

Macromedia and Nokia are both members of the WAP Forum, the industry association that has developed the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and WML. By working together on a Web content development platform for the wireless Internet, the companies are bringing consumers the Internet in presentations suited for the unique handset environment.
