Novatel Wireless Inc., a leading provider of wireless Internet solutions, today announced the Merlin(TM) Wireless PC Card for Metricom Inc.'s (Nasdaq:MCOM) high-speed Ricochet 128 kbps wireless mobile access network.
When available, the Merlin modem will connect to the Ricochet network, which offers access to the Internet, private intranets, local-area networks, email, and other online services at the highest mobile wireless data throughput available. Designed for the Type II PC Card interface, the Merlin will be compatible with Windows(R) 95/98/NT/2000 laptops as well as Pocket PC handheld computers. Novatel Wireless will conduct a demonstration of the technology behind the Merlin for Ricochet at PC Expo in New York this week at the Novatel Wireless booth (No. 3270).

"The sheer speed and reliability of the Ricochet network offer tremendous performance for typical wireless Internet applications such as email, Web browsing and instant messaging; and in addition, provide enough power for high bandwidth wireless Internet applications such as conferencing, streaming video and audio."

Novatel Wireless expects to announce pricing and availability of the Merlin for the Ricochet 128 kbps network later this year.
