Novatel Wireless Unveils New Wireless Device for Handspring Visor; Minstrel S Delivers Wireless WAN Access to Email and the Internet

Novatel Wireless, Inc., a leading provider of wireless Internet solutions, today announced their Minstrel S(TM) Wireless Springboard(TM) Modem for the Handspring(TM) Visor(TM) handheld computer. The Minstrel S will make its public debut at PC Expo in New York this week at the Novatel Wireless booth (No. 3270) and the Handspring booth (No. 3734).

The Minstrel S is the newest addition to Novatel Wireless' Minstrel(R) family of Wireless Palmtop Modems for the Palm OS(TM) and Pocket PC platforms. The Minstrel S is the first wireless WAN module designed for Handspring's Springboard expansion platform. By snapping the Minstrel S into the Springboard slot on the back of the Visor, the Minstrel S enables wireless access to email, corporate LANs and the Internet via the Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) network.

"Novatel Wireless was the first to market with a wireless data accessory for the original PalmPilot back in 1998 and we have been a strong supporter of the Palm OS(TM) platform ever since," explained Bruce Gray, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Novatel Wireless, Inc. "We chose to partner with Handspring to provide their growing Visor customer base with real-time wireless access to personal, corporate and public information."

"Novatel Wireless has established their Minstrel brand as a leading wireless computing accessory for the handheld computing market," said Ed Colligan, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Handspring. "With the Minstrel S modem, Visor customers have a powerful communications tool that can greatly enhance their business and personal productivity."

The Minstrel S will be bundled with JP System's One-Touch Mail(TM) POP3 email application, AvantGO(TM) web browser and the Minstrel Modem Manager, which allows the user to establish and monitor a wireless data connection. The Minstrel S will also be available with 2 MB and 4 MB flash memory versions, the Minstrel S2 and Minstrel S4, respectively. Novatel Wireless expects to begin selling the products starting at an MSRP of approximately $369 at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2000.
