Open Source Wireless Developer Kit to be Distributed At JavaOne Conference and Exhibition

Lutris Technologies, Sun Microsystems and AnywhereYouGo.com Deliver Free Technology and Tutorials for Wireless Internet Application Developers

Lutris Technologies, Inc., an Open Source enterprise software and services company, today announced plans to distribute a free Open Source Wireless Developer Kit to attendees of the JavaOne(SM) Conference and exhibition in San Francisco this week. The Wireless Developer Kit CD employs technologies from and is sponsored by Sun Microsystems, AnywhereYouGo.com, and Lutris Technologies.

"As businesses grasp the potential of mobile commerce, the market is exploding," said David Taber, director of business development, Forte Tools, Sun Microsystems. "We're pleased that Lutris selected the Forte(TM) for Java(TM) IDE, based on the NetBeans Open Source technology, for this well-timed wireless development offering."

The Wireless Development Kit includes Sun's Forte for Java Community Edition 1.0 software, a wireless development tutorial including a sample Internet address book application contributed by AnywhereYouGo.com, the YoSpace cell phone emulator, the WAPtor WML editor, the Enhydra Java(TM)/XML Open Source application server, and InstantDB, a Java technology based Open Source relational database.

"This is the first and only all Open Source development platform for wireless Internet applications," said Yancy Lind, President and CEO at Lutris. "It gives developers a single source for best of breed Open Source tools for wireless application development and deployment."

The Wireless Developer Kit introduces Java technology developers to building wireless Internet applications via a sample address book tutorial. The sample application is authored in Forte for Java Community Edition 1.0 software, hosted within the Enhydra application server, and uses the InstantDB database to store address book entries. Once installed, a developer may easily view the application via a standard HTML browser, as a regular Internet user might, or view it using the supplied YoSpace cell phone emulator, which offers cross platform support and is based on Java technology. The address book tutorial demonstrates the reference behaviors most likely to occur on a mobile Internet device - timely and rapidly executable transactions required by consumers and business professionals. The tutorial is thus easily extensible to query not just names from an address book, but also stock prices from the NASDAQ, flight departure information for a specific carrier and flight, and so forth. All source code for the development tools, as well as the tutorial, is included on the CD.

"This development kit is a great tool for developers who want to get started building wireless applications with Open Source technology," said Victor Brilon, technology strategist at AnywhereYouGo.com. "Open Source is fueling much of the innovation in wireless development, and the technology in this kit is a great example of how and why that is happening."

Lutris will distribute the Wireless Developer kit from their booth (#514) at the JavaOne Conference and exhibition in San Francisco this week. Lutris also plans to distribute the CD to attendees of the O'Reilly Open Source software convention in Monterey, Calif., July 17-20. A limited number of copies will also be distributed to developers who request a copy at http://wirelesscd.enhyra.org.
