Primate Systems Releases E-mail Messaging Software for GSM Phones and Palm Computers

Primate Systems Incorporated is introducing MonkeyMail as a convenient and quick way of linking Palm(TM) Computers with GSM digital handsets to send and receive wireless e-mails. MonkeyMail software provides e-mail management via Palm(TM) infrared and GSM Short Messaging System (SMS) to deliver completely wireless access for any internet e-mail user.

"MonkeyMail makes the Palm(TM) computer a powerful messaging tool. The advanced GSM digital network is an ideal way to use a Person Digital Assistant (PDA) to send and receive messages for any internet e-mail user," said Dave Kinsella, sales manager for Primate Systems. "Using the infrared capabilities of the Palm(TM) and the GSM digital handsets, MonkeyMail does away with the complexities of mobile computing. No cables, no modems, no laptops, and no hassles of searching for a phone jack. MonkeyMail provides true wireless connectivity for the most popular messaging applications."

"PDA's and GSM digital phones are a natural match for mobile users. We've used MonkeyMail to link the advanced messaging services of our GSM network with the ease of use of a Palm (TM) computer with good results. Users who rely on their handheld computers to improve their productivity while on the road can access Powertel's (NASDAQ:PTEL) GSM network to stay in touch and bring more information into their PDA," said Chris Caldwell, New Technology Specialist, for Powertel. "MonkeyMail is designed to complement our two-way text messaging services, PowerChat(SM), and Powertel Mail, Powertel's mobile e-mail service, to give our customers the ability to manage chat text messaging and internet e-mail from the convenient Palm OS platform. We have evaluated MonkeyMail and find it a powerful and useful message management program."

"SMS works ideally for a Palm(TM) computer to digital mobile phone application. You don't need to be logged into a service to manage your e-mail and chat messages," said Kinsella. "MonkeyMail is composed, edited, and replied to on the Palm(TM) computer. The connection is quick and setup time for connecting to the GSM network is minimal. We see that connecting your mobile phone to your PDA via infrared or Bluetooth will be very widespread; MonkeyMail makes these connections simple and truly wireless."
