WIDCOMM's BlueConnect Expansion Module Enables Bluetooth Connectivity for Handheld PDAs

Reference Design Platform Wins ``Best of Show'' Award at Computex 2000

WIDCOMM Inc., a world leader in short-range wireless communications and Bluetooth(TM) networking, today announced the availability of the BlueConnect expansion module reference design.

BlueConnect provides OEMs and wireless device designers the ability to seamlessly integrate Bluetooth capabilities into Handspring(TM) Visor(TM) PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) for wireless connectivity to other Bluetooth devices, including cell phones, notebook PCs, or other PDAs.

The BlueConnect design won "Best of Show" at Computex 2000. WIDCOMM will be demonstrating Bluetooth connectivity between Handspring Visors using the BlueConnect expansion module at the Bluetooth Congress in Monte Carlo, June 13-16 at Booth No. 63.

The BlueConnect reference design provides a flexible solution for OEMs and manufacturers to incorporate Bluetooth capabilities into their handheld products. The design includes Bluetooth protocol software and an API (Application Programming Interface) suite for developing customized applications.

"Consumers want information anytime and anywhere," said Hiep Pham, WIDCOMM president and CEO. "Handheld products based on WIDCOMM's Bluetooth designs will give it to them."

The BlueConnect module will allow Visor users to wirelessly access the Internet using a Bluetooth cell phone, PC or access point connected to another network (Ethernet, ISDN, or PSTN); synchronize data between a Bluetooth PC or laptop; remote-dial a telephone using the PDA contact database; or play interactive games with other Bluetooth PDAs.
