Wireless Internet ASP SensCom Inc., Joins WAP Forum

SensCom Inc., a leading application service provider (ASP) in wireless Internet solutions for the financial services industry and the first company to enable a commercial offering of wireless Internet banking on wireless phones in the United States, has joined the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum, a consortium of more than 500 organizations dedicated to developing a de-facto world standard for wireless information and telephony services on wireless devices.

SensCom's wireless ASP solution utilizes proven proprietary technology to enable secure delivery of wireless Internet financial transactions over WAP-enabled wireless phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

SensCom anticipates a growing market for WAP-enabled services due to the rapid growth of wireless Internet devices predicted by industry analysts. International Data Corp. predicts skyrocketing numbers of wireless Internet users between now and 2003, saying subscriber numbers for wireless Internet in the United States will jump from 560,000 to 73.1 million between 1999 and 2003.

"SensCom recognized the opportunity that the WAP standard represents and established itself early as a wireless ASP, delivering Hand-Held Bankingsm services to WAP-enabled handsets," said SensCom CTO Tom Parham. "Our membership in the WAP Forum confirms SensCom's commitment to staying on top of the wireless Internet technology evolution so that we can continue to identify and package the best financial services for our customers across all devices," said Parham.

"With SensCom's involvement, the WAP Forum will continue to foster the development of rich, WAP-enabled wireless Internet content that will help make life easier for people on the go," said Scott Goldman, WAP Forum CEO.

In April 2000 SensCom quickly distinguished itself as a leader in wireless Internet solutions by enabling California's USE Credit Union to be the first financial institution in the United States to offer wireless Internet banking on wireless phones to all of its customers.

Using the WAP standard, SensCom facilitates transactions between the user's wireless web-enabled phone and the financial institution's system, offering the speed and convenience of real-time transactions on a wireless device. SensCom offers multiple integration options to its client financial institutions; all interactions between the financial institution and its end user are protected using the highest available forms of encryption technology, including Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS). The financial institution manages the login authentication process with a user's ID and password and also maintains complete control over user ID and password databases.
