TANTAU Collaborates with BEA to Provide Integrated Wired and Wireless E-Commerce Solution

Combination of TANTAU's Wireless Internet Platform and BEA WebLogic Server Brings Secure Mobile E-Commerce to Financial Services Industry

TANTAU Software Inc., a leading developer of software and services that enable companies to conduct mobile e-commerce, today announced an alliance with BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BEAS), the E-Commerce Transactions Company(TM), to enable ebusinesses to extend their wired ecommerce solutions to the wireless world and into the hands of mobile device users. By combining TANTAU's Wireless Internet Platform with the award-winning BEA WebLogic Server(TM), banks and financial services companies can quickly build and deploy mobile ecommerce applications that combine the convenience, reliability and security customers demand with the scalability required for rapid growth.

With mobile users multiplying in unprecedented numbers -- for example, analysts predict that by 2003 more than 1 billion mobile phones will be in use, with half of these supporting wireless Internet access -- banks and brokerages must be able to meet the demands of these users to complete financial transactions, such as fund transfers, stock trades and bill payment, via their wireless devices anywhere and anytime. TANTAU's Wireless Internet Platform, a leading wireless software solution that connects back-end systems with mobile devices, will integrate with the BEA WebLogic Server, the industry-leading Java application server that enables companies to quickly build and deploy sophisticated ecommerce applications. By coupling products from both companies, enterprises can leverage their existing BEA infrastructure to quickly develop competitive mobile ecommerce solutions and capitalize on the expanding wireless marketplace. TANTAU and BEA offer best-of-breed technology that can meet the wide range of business requirements institutions face today.

"TANTAU's and BEA's complementary offerings seed the early adopter markets in support of the wireless and Internet convergence -- those that offer complete commercial transactions reliably and securely," said John Kiger, director of product marketing, BEA E-Commerce Server Division. "This alliance is part of BEA's overall m-commerce strategy to support open wireless platforms, which offer customers a breadth of choice when developing their mobile ecommerce applications."

Installed at over 30 financial services organizations, including MeritaNordbanken and New Zealand Stock Exchange, TANTAU's m-commerce software creates the link for a variety of wireless devices, including cellular telephones, personal digital assistants and pagers, to interact with back-end applications and data sources, and gives the ability to create personalized applications based on user preferences. With numerous major financial services clients -- such as Deutsche Bank, E*TRADE and Wells Fargo -- built on BEA WebLogic Server, BEA provides the E-Commerce Transaction Platform(TM) that enables businesses to succeed on the Web.

"The integration of our technologies gives customers who have implemented BEA WebLogic Server a massively scalable and extremely reliable and secure platform to add mobile ecommerce capabilities with very little effort," said John Sims, president and CEO of TANTAU. "Both companies benefit from this alliance and together offer a strong wireless and wired ecommerce system in the market."
