2000 Democratic National Convention Goes Mobile With Aether-Enabled Palm Devices

Aether's ScoutWare Chosen by DNC to Mobilize Convention Delegates and Media

Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AETH), a leading provider of wireless data products and services, today announced that its award-winning ScoutWare(TM) software will power an innovative mobile synchronization application for delivering data via hand-held devices at the 2000 Democratic National Committee Convention (DEMS2000) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, August 14 - 17.

The DEMS2000 application, designed and implemented by Eventcentric, is a specialized convention portal that enables users of Palm handheld computing devices to access up-to-date news and information related to the convention. The Eventcentric application harnesses Aether's ScoutSync(TM) technology so that Palm handheld device users can synchronize data via special synchronization cradles located throughout the convention floor. Palm users can also create personalized schedules, access news content, convention speeches, and information about delegates, participate in interactive event surveys and evaluations, learn about the history of the Democratic National Convention, or locate a nearby restaurant.

"DEMS2000 is a forum of significant national and global importance, and we are pleased to support convention delegates and press with a powerful and flexible mobile alternative to information normally provided in a more cumbersome paper-based format," said Larry Roshfeld, Senior Vice President, Products, Aether Systems. "DEMS2000 represents a key opportunity to showcase the immense benefits of mobile devices and the new wireless age."

Aether's ScoutWare has been previously implemented and highly rated by attendees as part of similar applications at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Sun JavaOne event and Symbol users conferences earlier this year, as well as the Sun JavaOne event last summer.

In addition, Aether has teamed with Congressional Quarterly Inc. and Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL - news) (announced separately July 12), to provide a mobile information application to the nation's top journalists and party officials at both DEMS 2000 and the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia. The first-ever convention news service, called Pocket CQ-Alert, provides 500 Motorola T900 two-way e-mail devices to enable journalists to receive frequent alerts on breaking convention news from CQ's team of on-site reporters. It also provides real-time access to convention schedule changes, and access to an instant-messaging e-mail feature linked to CQ's Political Help Desk, allowing reporters to query CQ researchers for additional background material from any location in the convention cities.
