Centura Software and Cymbios Corp. Teaming to Extend the Enterprise to Mobile Applications

Centura's db.star(TM)and eSNAPP Are Key Elements of Cymbios Product Suite

Centura(TM) Software Corp. (Nasdaq:CNTR), a leading global provider of solutions that mobilize the enterprise, announced today that Cymbios Corp. is integrating Centura's recently announced eSNAPP 2.0 and db.star technologies into its mobile device software. Cymbios Corp. provides solutions for easy development, deployment, and management of enterprise applications for mobile appliances including PDAs, Palmtops, and Smart Phones. Integrating Centura's solutions, Cymbios will automate much of the process of extracting meta data and business rules from the enterprise system to produce flexible, PocketApps(TM) that conform to any given device form factor.

In its search for compatible mobile enterprise solutions that would provide the needed functionality to their own enterprise application solutions, Cymbios realized that several constraints kept enterprise applications from being moved out to the mobile workforce. First, browser technology was slow, inflexible, and precluded functional use of data at the appliance level. Of equal importance, frequent changes in business rules, forms, and content meant continual maintenance of applications that were already complex to write and maintain. It required revolutionary solutions that would not be hindered by these common constraints.

Cymbios addresses these limitations by developing a suite of tools that includes eSNAPP, Centura's Information Appliance connectivity server that provides Information Appliances with real-time access to enterprise data, and db.star, Centura's family of secure, open-source, ultra-small footprint embedded database designed specifically for Information Appliances (IA) and other handheld devices. eSNAPP 2.0 will provide the transport mechanism to move Cymbios' PocketApps(TM) created at the console side to remote devices, where they will be stored in the db.star database. db.star provides a developer-friendly database engine for development of rich and powerful Information Appliance applications. The integrated solution will enable end users of Cymbios products to customize appearance and content at the remote device. While the initial customers are in the Hospital Facilities Management arena, Cymbios' products will benefit almost any vertical market.

"Cymbios and Centura have very similar goals in supporting mobile enterprises," says the President of Cymbios. "The fit with db.star and eSNAPP made them logical components of our enterprise applications. The power to store data and communicate it effectively to and from the mobile environment is key to the future of business development."

The suite will also include authorizations, permissions, and other management functions. eSNAPP allows access to multiple enterprise applications on the back end, with multiple options for connecting various IA devices on the front end, and its continuous business process monitoring and instant access powers data transfer to the mobile workforce. db.star integrates Centura's patent-pending SafeGarde encryption technology and offers a completely open and interoperable solution for securely extending business data to remote devices. Cymbios plans to target markets utilizing radio frequency, cellular, GSM, and WAP technologies, among others.

"We're very excited about the potential for a symbiotic relationship with Cymbios as it deploys our products to mobilize the enterprise," remarks Scott Broomfield, chairman and CEO of Centura. "We have designed our products to be standards-based -- allowing us to work more freely with companies such as Cymbios. Their decision to integrate our mobile enterprise solutions exemplifies the power behind our newest products."
