DigitalOwl, Aportis Technologies Establish M-Commerce Content Delivery Partnership

Relationship secures digital delivery and copyright protection of premium content to Palm OS and other handheld devices

DigitalOwl(TM), provider of secure online information commerce and Aportis Technologies Corp., publishers of AportisDoc, an enabling technology for placing text documents on Palm OS(TM) devices, have completed a technology demonstration that allows premium information to be purchased and viewed on a spectrum of personal digital assistants (PDAs).

The combined solution ensures that digitally published content, such as research reports and eBooks, can be securely viewed on Palm OS platforms, providing greater availability and flexibility of content for the growing number of consumers in the worldwide handheld marketplace. The AportisDoc file format standard (sometimes called "Doc") is used to create documents that businesses worldwide use everyday.

DigitalOwl's TitleVision(TM) software will offer the interface for secure viewing of the informational content on Palm devices. Content will be protected and viewed through AportisDoc Mobile Edition, a standard application used to view information on Palm Powered(TM) handheld computers.

"The integration between DigitalOwl and AportisDoc emphasizes DigitalOwl's commitment to support dominant reader platforms within the handheld and wireless markets," said Kirstie Chadwick, CEO and President of DigitalOwl. "Aportis Technologies is an industry leader in this field. DigitalOwl's KineticEdge solution enables Aportis' consumers to have immediate access to the broad array of premium, copyright-protected content available through our iCommerce network of distribution partners."

"We are pleased to be partnered with DigitalOwl," said David Schargel, President of Aportis Technologies Corp. "KineticEdge provides a solution many publishers have been waiting for to deliver secure content on handheld devices. With this partnership, the m-commerce solution for published content is here today."

Mobile Commerce, also known as m-commerce, has been enormously successfully in Europe, but remains in its infancy in the United States. A recent International Data Corp. research study predicts m-commerce sales may reach $21 billion by 2004, including sales for premium published content.

DigitalOwl (http://www.digitalowl.com) intends to form future strategic partnerships with other handheld and wireless developers, such as Handspring, Franklin eBookman, and WAP-based cell phones, according to Chadwick.

DigitalOwl will demonstrate its Aportis integration plug-in on Palm devices at the Seybold Publishing 2000 conference, Aug. 29-31, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The DigitalOwl display may be found in the e-book pavilion at Booth No. 4415.
