Extended Systems Expands Mobile Market Presence in Asia

Wraps up Successful Bluetooth Seminar Series, Signs IMAG Industries as Distribution Partner in China

Further staking its claim in the growing Asian mobile computing market, Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND) today wrapped up a successful series of developer seminars on Bluetooth technology in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China, and announced that it has named Imag Industries, Inc. (IMAG) as a distributor of the company's Bluetooth and infrared software development kits.

The training seminar in Shenzhen was the culmination of a three-week long Asian training tour, which also included stops in Tokyo, Seoul, Taiwan, Beijing and Shanghai. The purpose of the training tour was to educate engineers about Bluetooth technology and how it can be effectively integrated into embedded products such as mobile phones, PDAs, portable office equipment and digital cameras.

The seminar series in the People's Republic of China was held in conjunction with recently-signed distribution partner IMAG. Founded in 1981, IMAG was the first private technology company to have a presence in the People's Republic of China. Employing more than 60 people, IMAG currently has five regional offices in China, covering northern China, eastern China, southwest China and south China. The first Extended Systems/IMAG Bluetooth seminar in Beijing drew over 120 attendees including representatives from Motorola, Huawei, Ericsson, TCL, Hisense, Tsinghua University and Great Wall.

The seminar series in Japan was held with Extended Systems' distribution partner A1-Corporation. AI-Corporation has locations in Osaka and Tokyo.

To date, more than 2,000 developers in Asia have been trained on Extended Systems' Bluetooth and infrared technologies.

"Extended Systems views Asia and, more specifically, China as a strategic area of focus, given the enormous amount of ongoing growth in the use of mobile devices," said Don Baumgartner, Universal Mobile Connectivity business unit manager at Extended Systems. "We plan to capitalize on this rapidly expanding market by entering early and educating developers about the benefits of Bluetooth and infrared wireless technologies."

Extended Systems offers a complete, multi-purpose software development kit for implementing Bluetooth wireless protocols in handheld devices. Extended Systems has licensed the product, XTNDAccess Blue SDK, to several major manufacturers including 3Com, Palm, Intel, Motorola and Fujitsu for implementation into next-generation products.
