Hypercom Introduces Handheld Wireless Card Payment Terminal with Internet Access

High Performance Palm-Sized Device Delivers Array of Value- Added, Internet-Based Services for Merchants

Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) today introduced the ePic ICE(TM) 4000, a high performance Internet-enabled, wireless card payment terminal and web appliance for merchants and service providers, including car rental companies, stadiums, medical facilities, restaurants and delivery services that want to bring the payment system directly to the consumer.

When used with Hypercom's ePicPortz(TM) security and gateway server software, the highly secure near-palm-size payment and web appliance supports a range of value-packed, browser-based services including: e-mail, on-screen advertising, interactive electronic coupons, electronic receipt capture (ERC), access to DDA account information, merchant e-commerce function, and cash management reporting through a standard browser - in addition to traditional and smart card payment functions. The integrated web browser also supports easy application downloading and expanded networking functionality for merchants looking to access and/or process data from multiple locations from a single office.

"Demands on the average consumer's time have never been greater. Competition at the retail level has never been more intense. Both are demanding faster, more secure and virtually 'anytime, anywhere' payments capabilities and services, and the ePic ICE 4000 will squarely address these needs," said George Wallner, president and CEO, Hypercom Corporation. "Hypercom's ePic ICE 4000 is a uniquely compact and robust card payment terminal web appliance. The terminal is easy-to-use, suitable to be used as a customer-activated device, and it can deliver an array of important value-added features. It is the ideal solution for retail stores, restaurants, hotels, stadiums and delivery services that want to use proven technology to maintain their competitive edge."

With a near-palm-size footprint, the powerful ePic (ePOS-infocommerce(TM)) ICE 4000 appliance can be worn or carried by service providers, or it can be wall-powered for stationary use. It packs the same full functionality and revenue-generating features of Hypercom's popular ePic ICE family of Internet-enabled appliances, including an easy-to-use touch-screen pen entry capability, graphics thermal printer, automatic paper cutter, magnetic stripe and smart card reader and built-in lithium ion battery.

The ePic ICE 4000 offers a choice of communications options, with models supporting a variety of wireless WAN technologies (GSM, CDPD, Mobitex), wireless technologies (900MHz), and a wireline modem that incorporates Hypercom 9600 FastPOS(TM) technology, and a LAN interface. Optional components and add-ons include an adapter for use in autos and memory options of 1.0 to 1.5 MB.

Hypercom's Internet-enabled ICE 4000 card payment web appliance is available now.

Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) is a global provider of end-to-end electronic payment solutions, including card payment systems, peripherals, network products, software and e-commerce payment solutions that add value at the point-of-sale for consumers, merchants and acquirers.
