Intermec and Centura Partnership Enables Mobile Worker Access to Customer Information

Field Service Solutions Chicago 2000 Visit Intermec and Centura at Field Service Solutions 2000 Show in Chicago August 2-3, Booth No. 2208

Intermec Technologies Corp., a UNOVA Inc. (NYSE:UNA) company, and Centura Software Corp. (Nasdaq:CNTR), a leading global provider of solutions that mobilize the enterprise, announced today an expanded alliance that will provide mobile workers using Intermec's new ArciTech(TM) mobile workforce management system visibility to customer information.

The announcement coincides with opening of the Field Service Solutions 2000 Show in Chicago, Ill.

ArciTech, from Intermec, is a new, affordable mobile workforce management application that runs on Intermec(R) 6110 or Intermec(R) 602 pen-based computers and utilizes Centura's RealTime Database Manager(TM) (RDM). On the customer's doorstep, the program guides the service provider step-by-step through the intricacies of each customer stop. For example, on the screen of the mobile computer, a technician is able to easily receive schedules, track status changes, order parts, record time and materials used, capture customer signatures and collect payments.

Centura's RealTime Database Manager(TM) (RDM), stores the important customer data on the pen-based computer for the mobile worker to access and update. RDM is a Windows(R)-based compact database built for applications that require fast performance and small disk storage. With customer information on the mobile computer at all times, service technicians can complete work regardless of connectivity with the enterprise. Information gathered throughout the day is written to the RDM database on the mobile computer and then transmitted to the central database where customer information, financial and inventory systems are updated. Together, the Intermec and Centura products allow the technician to provide accurate information for customers.

"Access to customer and work order information at all times is an essential component of our mobile solutions," said Mike Colwell, managing director of the Intermec Field Service Solutions Team. "To work with ArciTech, we wanted a complementary database application that offered fast data storage and retrieval, used little memory, and one that supported multiple operating systems including Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Windows CE. Centura's RDM database met all our needs."

"This is a valuable partnership," said Centura Chief Executive Officer Scott Broomfield. "Centura brings integrated mobile capabilities to forward-thinking companies like Intermec and its customers. ArciTech makes the best use of these capabilities with its high level of data integrity and backup options."

Intermec and Centura have been working together since 1994 to develop mission critical mobile business applications for the direct store delivery, transportation, sales force automation and field service markets. Together, the companies will be exhibiting at the Field Service Solutions 2000 Show, Booth No. 2208 in Chicago, Ill., August 2-3, where Intermec and Centura will demonstrate ArciTech integrating Centura's RDM, as well as a separate demonstration highlighting Centura's eSNAPP 2.0 Information Appliance connectivity server running on Intermec's 6651 Windows CE device.
