Motorola's recently opened centre in Sweden for the development of mobile Internet services has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Halebop, the joint venture company of Oracle and Swedish operator Telia. When implemented, Halebop will be a reference service provider in Europe, Middle East and Africa and Motorola will have access to a broad range of new mobile services and applications for its broad range of mobile phones.
"During the last year Motorola has been working closely with both Telia and Oracle, in a good collaboration, to mutually develop ideas and applications for the mobile communication market. The Memorandum of Understanding with Halebop is a natural continuation on this collaboration", says Ulf Gustafsson, General Manager of Motorola's Wireless Internet Application Centre in Sweden. "Through Halebop Motorola will gain many additional users and when the MOU is implemented, we will have a better understanding of the type of applications that are currently missing in the market and determine the new applications that need to be developed..."
Motorola is offering support, training, certification, and testing environments for application developers. By linking Motorola's competence in-house with specific expertise, such as Halebop's, Motorola Wireless Internet Application Centre, there will be a dynamic resource that drives the development of the mobile Internet forward. The Swedish centre is the first that Motorola has opened and the next step will be to open a number of Wireless Internet Application Centers across the globe that will collaborate in order to offer Motorola's customers desirable mobile applications through the development community.
"This is as a strategic alliance. Together we will be able to create testing environments and develop infrastructure and services that will benefit the end-consumer. Earlier we have seen problems as the manufacturers of mobile phones and service providers have not kept the same pace, WAP is a good example of that", says Roland Svensson, CEO of Halebop. "Now, when a new mobile phone is released on the market a number of working services will be available at the same time through a collaboration such as this".

"This will be made possible by mutually sharing knowledge and experience on what is technically possible and on what the user requires".
