PUMATECH Partners With Card Access to Offer Web Browsing Capabilities to Handspring Visor Customers

Browse-it Software Works With Thincom Wireless Modem To Deliver The Internet To The Palm Of Users' Hands -- Without Re-authoring

PUMATECH, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), the leading provider of the essential software infrastructure for The Anywhere Internet, and Card Access, Inc., a provider of innovative, small, low-power communications designs for operating system independent applications, have announced an agreement that will provide PUMATECH's Browse-it(tm) Web rendering/browsing software with Card Access's Springboard(tm) -compatible Wristband(tm) Thincom Portable Modem.

Browse-it software will provide Handspring(tm) Visor(tm) customers with the ability to view Web content online while utilizing Card Access's Thincom Portable Modem, and the option to take Browse-it "SnapShots" for offline viewing when wireless Web access is not available. Browse-it delivers the technology needed to view the Web through the relatively small display area found on Palm-compatible handhelds. Since much of the publisher-driven content on the Web is designed for large-display devices, the content must necessarily undergo "transformations" in order to yield a more acceptable user experience on devices like the Handspring Visor. Browse-it enables these devices to operate as full-fledged Internet clients by performing the necessary transformations on Web data before delivering the content to the device. No re-authoring of the content is required. Card Access customers will enjoy access to ANY Web site of interest, not only sites that have been re-authored in a programming language for mobile devices, such as WML or XML.

"As the demand for wireless connectivity continues to grow, PUMATECH understands the need for an easy-to-use product that delivers complete Web access to users of Palm-compatible handheld devices, such as the Handspring Visor," said Brad Rowe, president and CEO of PUMATECH. "Card Access is valuable to the constantly growing mobile communications and wireless handheld space, and we are happy to partner with them and offer Browse-it's powerful Web rendering capabilities that go hand-in-hand with its Wristband Thincom modem."

"The unique combination of Thincom and Browse-it gives users `out of box' access to the capabilities of the web," stated Ray Ivins, vice president of sales and marketing for Card Access, Inc. "By including Browse-it in Thincom's on-board memory, Visor users can access the Internet immediately, and without an intervening PC to `sync' the application or the web data. No application install, no synchronizing hassles, and real-time Web access are a powerful combination for the savvy mobile Visor user."

Browse-it will be a service of PUMATECH's upcoming Intellisync.com(SM) Web showcase, scheduled to make its debut this fall. All Browse-it users will have ready-made access to the other components of Intellisync.com: Mind-it and Sync-it. The Mind-it(tm) service untangles the traditional, publisher-driven Web, allowing users to track specific information and to be notified via their WAP phone, cell phone, pager, handheld device or PC when that information changes. The Sync-it(tm) service simultaneously synchronizes e-mail, calendar and other info among multiple mobile devices and PCs.
