Online Resource Offers Downloadable Tools and Technical Support

Sony Electronics Inc. today made another advancement in the handheld computing arena with the launch of its Sony Handheld Developer Web site --http://www.us.sonypdadev.com.

The site offers essential information to third party hardware and software developers for building applications specific to Sony's exclusive Jog Dial(TM) controller and Memory Stick(R) media slot featured on its Palm OS(R) software-powered handheld device.

Providing full support for application development, the Sony developer Web site is accessible free of charge to private or corporate developers who register as members. Services include:

-- Sony handheld developer's newsletter -- the latest handheld information delivered automatically to a registered e-mail address, including site updates and other technical news.

-- Downloadable development tools -- the latest SDK for the Jog Dial control and Memory Stick media.

-- Technical notes -- technical specifications for Memory Stick media and Jog Dial control.

-- Technical support (optional)

"We're excited to be working with the development community to push the boundaries of the Palm OS software for Sony products," said Marty Ohno, director of marketing for Sony Electronics' handheld products.

Sony's site offers two options for its visitors: the all-access public pages and the Sony Standard Program, which is free to the Web site's registered members. While the public pages provide the latest news and industry topics, the Standard Program provides downloadable development tools, development information and an FAQ section outlining a host of technical information.
