Sundog Joins SyncML Initiative to Develop and Promote Open Synchronization Platform for Mobile Devices

Sundog Joins World Leaders Such as IBM, Nokia and Ericsson to Build a Standards-Based Platform to Deliver Ubiquitous Access From Any Application to Mobile Devices

Sundog Technologies Inc. (OTC:SUDG), a leader in data access and distribution solutions, Tuesday announced they have joined the SyncML Industry Initiative.

The purpose of the consortium is to develop and promote open data synchronization protocols and facilitate the unrestricted access and delivery of information to mobile devices. Sundog joins the following prestigious group of industry-leading companies: Nokia, Palm, IBM, Psion, Lotus, Motorola, Starfish and Ericsson.

"Since handheld computing devices, such as PDAs and Web-enabled phones, are clearly the future mobile computing platform, Sundog is focused on providing a universal conduit to extract information from corporate data sources and distribute the data to these devices without custom programming," said Alan Rudd, president and chief executive officer, Sundog Technologies.

"We will vigorously support open standards that will enable critical corporate data such as customer contact lists, price lists and inventory to be automatically available on a handheld computer."

"Until now, the progress of mobile data synchronization has been based on a set of different, proprietary protocols, each functioning only with a very limited number of devices, systems and data types," explained Douglas Heintzman, chairman of SyncML and Standard Initiative manager in IBM's Pervasive Computing Division.

"The SyncML initiative is developing and promoting a single, common data synchronization protocol that could be used everywhere, in every device and in every application."

These non-interoperable technologies have complicated the tasks of users, manufacturers, service providers and developers. In addition, a proliferation of different, proprietary data synchronization protocols has placed barriers to the extended use of mobile devices, has restricted data access and delivery and limited the mobility of the users.

Sundog is committed to enterprise solutions that make it easier and faster to incorporate mobile users into any corporate data access strategy. Universal Update(TM), Sundog's flagship product, automates the complex process of extracting data from any data source and moving it to a neutral environment where it can be distributed to target systems including handheld devices.

What used to take several weeks or months of custom programming and scripting will take only minutes or hours to implement.

Universal Update uses a patented, non-intrusive way of recognizing changes in source data. The changes are automatically tracked and incrementally transferred to the target system(s) so that each mobile worker has the latest information. Universal Update works with both wireless and network connected devices to accommodate all types of mobile users.
