WirelessMD Inc. To Provide Mobile Medical Access Using WAP Technology

WirelessMD(TM), Inc., the premiere wireless connectivity solution provider for the medical community, today announced that it will provide customers with mobile access to patient and medical information using Nokia's WAP technology. Coupled with Nokia's technology, WirelessMD's software application will provide enhanced wireless data access and retrieval capabilities to physicians in the WirelessMD network.

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is an open global standard for communication between a mobile handset and the Internet or other computer application. WAP based technology enables the design of advanced, interactive and real-time mobile services such as mobile healthcare or Internet based news, which can be used in digital mobile phones, or other mobile devices. The WAP specification allows solutions from multiple suppliers to perform consistently and reliably for the end user across digital networks.

"We are delighted to partner with Nokia, one of the leading providers of WAP technology. WAP's open architecture and scalability addresses our customers' demand for great performance and reliability for their healthcare applications. Continuous mobile interactivity is fast becoming a competitive necessity for the medical community so we are constantly looking for new mediums to deliver the WirelessMD connectivity solution while maintaining a high level of quality and service," commented Gary Coltek, chief executive officer of WirelessMD, Inc.

The multi-functional WirelessMD system automates critical aspects of healthcare delivery. It is compatible with existing physician practice management and hospital legacy systems and facilitates access to critical healthcare information including clinical laboratory results, patient histories and updates, and potential adverse drug interactions notices as well as the ability to execute first time and renewal electronic prescriptions in a mobile interactive environment through the integration of various wireless networks. Using this system, physicians are able to make clinical decisions quickly thereby increasing efficiency and optimizing patient care.
