Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leading provider of mobile data management and wireless connectivity solutions, announced today that Casio Inc., one of the world's leading consumer electronics companies, is using Extended Systems' infrared wireless communication and data synchronization technologies in a new line of innovative "wrist data devices."
Under an OEM agreement, Extended Systems is supplying Casio Computer Company Ltd. Japan, a subsidiary of Casio, Inc., with an infrared technology that allows the new PC-UNITE Wrist-type Wearable PIM Data Viewer to wirelessly communicate with laptop or handheld computers and other PC-UNITE watches. In addition, Extended Systems is providing PC-based data synchronization software that will allow PC-UNITE users to synchronize PIM data on their PC (e-mail, calendar, contacts and notes) with their PC-UNITE watch. For PC users that do not have an infrared port built into their PC, Extended Systems also supplies XTNDAccess infrared adapters to Casio that allow communication with the PC-UNITE watch. The entire solution is bundled with the wearable watch and sold as accessories to Casio wearable camera products.
Since June, Casio has sold tens of thousands of PC-UNITE Wearable PIM Data Viewers bundled with Extended Systems' technologies.
"This is the type of product that appeals to today's tech-oriented consumer," said Extended Systems Universal Mobile Connectivity Business Unit Manager Don Baumgartner. "It's a small, feature-packed device with very impressive capabilities."
About Casio's PC-UNITE Wireless Connectivity,
Synchronization Capabilities
Casio's PC-UNITE Wrist-type Wearable PIM Data Viewers can store and display contacts, calendar, and PIM (Personal Information Management) data downloaded from a computer using infrared. These new models mark the latest additions to the growing lineup of new "wrist data devices."
In addition to being able to exchange PIM data with a PC, the new PC-UNITE models also can link with Microsoft Outlook and exchange data with mobile devices such as CASSIOPEIA and Palm OS handheld computers.
PC-UNITE comes with a collection of powerful PIM functions, including Schedule, Contact, and a To Do list. A data synchronization feature, incorporating Extended Systems' XTNDConnect PC data synchronization software, compares the data stored in the watch and the data stored on other devices with the bundled PIM application and updates both with the newest version. This means users can input data on their computers and download it to PC-UNITE, recall and edit the data on PC-UNITE when away from the desk, and update records when they return, all with the a few simple commands.
The powerful PIM functions and infrared capabilities of PC-UNITE come in a compact wristwatch configuration. Low-power operation provides approximately 18 months of operation between battery replacements. PC-UNITE is also water-resistant.
