Chrysalis-ITS Goes Wireless, Collaborating With Certicom to Deliver a New Version of Luna CA3, Which Enables Secure Transactions for Wireless Devices

CHRYSALIS-ITS PKS 2000, Flagship PKI Hardware Security Modules from Chrysalis-ITS Provide Solid Wireless Infrastructure for Certicom.

Certicom (Nasdaq:CERT)(TSE:CIC) and Chrysalis-ITS today announced that they have entered into an agreement which delivers an elliptic curve-based hardware security module for Certicom's high security wireless Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). Certicom's MobileTrust(TM) managed CA service

(http://www.chrysalis-its.com/news/partner_releases.html), launched today at the Certicom PKS event in San Jose, will include an optimized version of Luna CA3, the industry's most widely used key management system. Luna CA3-ECC has been enhanced with Certicom's elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) protocol, to strengthen the security of Certicom's MobileTrust CA service, ensuring best practices for wireless digital certificate issuance.

Under the terms of the agreement, Luna CA3-ECC will be available directly from Certicom. Use of ECC asymmetric encryption means the security technology is optimized for a constrained environment, giving the software a smaller key size and a more efficient algorithm, ideal for handheld and other devices. The combined solution ensures that end users have a solid security infrastructure for handling thousands of wireless transactions.

"Certicom and Chrysalis-ITS are ensuring that the best practices for protecting sensitive keying data in the networked world are also applied to the wireless space," said Richard Depew, executive vice president, Certicom. "We've selected Luna CA3, because it is the de facto standard for root key protection in the wired PKI industry and it now has been optimized with Certicom's elliptic curve cryptography, making it ideal for hardware protection in wireless PKI."

"Chrysalis-ITS is pleased Certicom has selected Luna CA3 as its hardware security module for wireless PKI. We're meeting our goal of enabling partners and the wireless industry to ensure mobile commerce systems have the highest level of integrity and security," said Steve Baker, President and CEO, Chrysalis-ITS. "Working with Certicom, we are addressing the changing needs of our customers and the marketplace by keeping communications and transactions in both wired and wireless networks safe from compromise."

Certicom's MobileTrust has already gained widespread support from industry leaders who are working with MobileTrust to enable tomorrow's cutting edge wireless solutions. These companies include 724 Solutions, Aether Systems, MoneyStream, QUALCOMM, Sybase, Research In Motion, Sony and ePocrates, an organization in the healthcare sector that will administer prescriptions via PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant), which will be embedded with digital certificates issued on the Luna CA3-ECC signing engine for MobileTrust.

The integrated solution from Certicom and Chrysalis will be on display in Certicom's booth at the PKS 2000 Conference in San Jose, September 19-21.
