EPSON LCD Controller Selected for Sony Clie

EPSON Expands Its Market Dominance with Another Handheld Design Win

EPSON Electronics America, the world's leader in color LCD controllers, today announced the selection of the EPSON SED1375 LCD Controller as the backbone for Sony's newly announced color Clie.

The high level of integration provided by the SED1375 offers a low-cost, low-power, feature-rich color display solution for handheld markets.

"We are extremely pleased with the market acceptance of our embedded memory LCD controllers," said Roy daSilva, executive director, Integrated Circuit (IC) Business Unit, EPSON Electronics America. "Our close relationship with our customers and our direct interface with the popular operating system (OS) companies allows us to continually provide very focused products for specific market segments."

IDC reports that the handheld market will grow 50 percent in 2000, with Palm OS(TM) devices making up 74 percent. Epson's leadership position in this industry is further enhanced by having its most popular LCD Controllers directly supported in the Palm OS Hardware Abstraction Layer.
